Since the early days of the AIDS pandemic, Uganda was known around the world for its effective response, led by His Excellency President Yoweri Museveni, which contributed to remarkable national HIV prevalence reductions from 18% to 6.4%. Uganda has been a laboratory for generating crucial scientific data and best practices, exported to other countries in the region and around the world. For example, research that showed how to prevent transmission of HIV during pregnancy was completed by the late Prof. Miro and other esteemed Ugandan experts.
An effective AIDS response should be at the foundation of any candidate or political party’s campaign. We are calling on all candidates and political parties standing in the 2011 election to support the ten essential goals contained in our platform.
